Sweatin' the small stuff

I'm generally a big fan of the concept of "don't sweat the small stuff." When I'm out running errands and see people getting all bent out of shape over things that they will have absolutely no memory of by the next day, I feel sorry for them. So much of our lives is just not in our control, and if something goes wrong (like your food taking longer than expected to arrive at a restaurant, or someone cutting in front of you in line, or a store being out of a product that you had wanted to get from their sale flyer, etc., etc., etc.), I'm really stunned by how people overreact.

But lately I've been doing the same thing. Not out and about, but around the house. And it's making me really upset with myself. Which somehow seems to make me do it more.

I suppose it's good that I recognize that I'm doing it, but I need to figure out how to make myself STOP already. And I wish I knew WHY I was doing it--what's changed? Is it the babysitting? Or the threat of 3 months of summer vacation with all the kids home ALL the time? Or something hormonal? Or something else? Whatever it is, it's getting old...

I hear you on this one. I believe it is a side effect of stress and being pulled in too many directions at once... because you realize that if you don't get a particular item in the food store then a meal you planned for the week can't be made, and you have no other chance to get to the food store for, say, 4 days. Or that if your food doesn't arrive soon you will miss your baby's nap time. Sigh.
