The 4th grade at our school places a big emphasis on students meeting or exceeding reading goals each quarter. The goals are based upon the individual student's ability, and are measured by successful completion of reading comprehension tests upon completion of a book. Every student who meets or exceeds their goal is rewarded with some type of celebration at the end of the quarter.
The celebration for the first quarter was a day filled with autumnal activities: building scarecrows with a team of 2 or 3 other students, a yummy snack of warm cider and caramel corn, followed by a picnic lunch and double recess time.
