For the past several years, we have not been recycling. It has made me cringe every time I throw away items that we used to recycle. But there were no curbside recycling services in our neighborhood. That has finally changed and we are now recycling again. It costs us $12 a month for the service, which seems a little high. Of course, these types of fees were just part of our county taxes in Virginia, so it wasn't as obvious. It may actually be a very reasonable rate. It's about the same amount that we pay for our monthly garbage pick up. So our refuse collection budget has doubled, even though we are disposing of the same amount of stuff. It kind of irks me, to be honest, but at least I can stop cringing and feel as if I'm doing a little something for our environment.
